Exhibition opening: Spotlight Heritage: Iosefin neighbourhood and Valeria Dr. Pintea - a novel in an exhibition

Open exhibition opening "Iosefin district and Valeria Dr. Pintea - a novel in an exhibition" gathered dozens of visitors at Theresa Bastion - people from culture, education and business, seniors and young people, as well as representatives of Timisoara institutions. They had the opportunity to relive the stories of Timișoara's past, through the exhibits specific to the times, through the digital and augmented reality applications and through the stories of the Iosefin district, selected from the novel by Valerie Dr. Pintea.
The exhibition aimed to illustrate the history of the Iosefin district and the stories of Timișoara's past through a collection of exhibits, data and information of cultural and historical heritage - illustrated with the help of digital technologies. Centered around the memoirs collected from Valeriei Dr. Pintea's novel (author: Liana Maria Gomboșiu, Timișoara, Marineasa Publishing House, 2013), the event inaugurated, in addition to the museographic and pavilion exhibitions, the 16 significant landmarks of the Iosefin district, brought to life with the help of augmented reality applications, as well as the personal stories that the community was invited to share digitally. Also during the exhibition, guests could test the "Spotlight Timisoara" digital and augmented reality apps, accessible on an interactive table and digital tablets.
Opening the event UPT pro-rector - Conf.univ.dr.ing. Florin Dragan who reminded about the context of this event, on the occasion of the one century anniversary of the foundation of Politehnica University Timișoara.
"I have to say that I am very happy that, 3 days before, as a preview to the year in which we celebrate 100 years of UPT, we have this presentation and this result of the project initiated by our colleagues, in collaboration with the other institutions. Timisoara Polytechnic, as it has been since the beginning, almost 100 years ago, wants to be involved not only in the transmission of knowledge and skills to students, but we want to be involved in all aspects - both cultural, even sporting - everything that means life and society in Timisoara." - said the UPT pro-rector.
The following spoke dr. eng. Diana Andone - the initiator of the project "Heritage in the spotlight Timisoara" and the idea behind it, who spoke to the guests about the digital component of the project - the project website and the augmented reality application.
"We are very happy that this dream that we all had, a handful of people from Politehnica, six years ago, has materialized today, in a quite obvious and quite complete form. It is a desire that we had, to tell the stories of Timisoara, in a different way, to build layers on top of this beautiful city, representing both the history, the heritage of the city, but especially the stories of the communities, the neighbourhoods, the art objects, the technological discoveries, but also of their inhabitants. It's a combination of real life and digital life, because there are, as you can see, several digital applications. It's a highly interactive website, it's a mobile app and it's an augmented reality app", explained the Director of the UPT ID/IFR and e-Learning Centre.

"The project that my previous speakers have already presented is a very complex one. It has a complex architecture, because what we are seeing now is only a stage of what will take place in 2020 and 2021. There will be other neighbourhoods that will be under the spotlight. And in addition to this exhibition, which is in an established museum space, we also have a street exhibition, with the panels that are in the 16 sites in the city and, of course, the digital component that Ms Andone talked about. What is important from the point of view of the association is this participatory component and the interactivity that exists. Because, in addition to the exhibition, the inhabitants of the city have the opportunity to tell their own story. And that's what we're aiming for, because it combines tangible heritage with intangible, intangible heritage - your stories make this heritage come alive.", explained Ovidiu Dajbog-Miron.
"I invite you to enjoy the culinary surprise of the evening - a cake prepared according to Valerie Dr. Pintea's recipe, named after Liana. Liana Maria Gomboșiu is the author of the novel "Valeria Dr. Pintea - a family novel", which we turned into an exhibition. It is an exhibition presented in the form of panels, in this display format, but also a street exhibition with 16 panels, with texts in Romanian and English about the buildings in Iosefin, fragments of the novel in Romanian, but also in English. These novel fragments were written in Romanian by Valeria's granddaughter, Liana Maria Gomboșiu, who lives in Bucharest and is over 80 years old, and translated into English by Valeria's great-granddaughter, who is with us - Mrs Alexandra Nășcuțiu, a doctor.", said Marius Cornea.
