The construction of the current building of the National Pedagogical College "Carmen Sylva" in Timișoara began in 1902 on a plot of land given free of charge by the city authorities and was completed the following year. Thus, from 1903-1904 the Girls' High School, which was a state school taught in Hungarian, was able to carry out its activities in the new building, built according to the plans of architects Leopold Baumhorn and Jakab Klein and constructed by Karl Hart. The construction of the buildings was only possible after the defortification, which involved the demolition of the fortress walls and allowed new educational institutions to be built in the central part of the town.
After the Great Union, the school was named "Carmen Sylva" High School for Girls, and it developed remarkably during the interwar period. Even though it faced inherent difficulties during the Second World War, it managed to provide a home for students who had fled here from the territories ceded by Romania in 1940. In the 1950s the school was renamed initially Middle School No. 3 and then Pedagogical High School "Eftimie Murgu". Thanks to a decision of the Board of Directors in 2002 the school, which has been the main training institution for educators and teachers over the years, was renamed "Carmen Sylva".
