The establishment of the Faculty of Human Medicine, which was initially included in the West University of Timisoara, in 1945, responded to a growing need to train medical professionals. Thus the decree-law no. 660, signed by King Michael I, confirmed the establishment of the West University of Timișoara and thus of the Faculty of Human Medicine. Initially, the Faculty's activities were carried out in the Notre Dame building (now the Student House). At the beginning of October 1945 the Banatia building, which had served this school complex in the interwar period, was obtained. At the time of the takeover, the building, which had briefly housed Soviet troops, was in a poor state of repair, so it took a great deal of effort to refurbish it.

In parallel with the teaching activity there was also a rich scientific activity, which brought to the Timisoara School of Medicine a well-deserved national prestige. In 1964 the Faculty of Dentistry was established and in 1990 the name of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Timișoara was adopted, including the Faculty of Pharmacy, which was accredited in 1995.

After the events of December 1989, new perspectives were opened for the modernization of education and for the improvement of teaching staff, whose competence is attested by the generations of doctors who graduated in medicine in Timisoara and by their representation in various national and international medical bodies and by obtaining numerous distinctions and awards.
