"Spotlight Heritage - a leap into freedom"

"Spotlight Heritage - a leap into freedom" is a dance and theatre show that brings to the fore some of the exciting stories of Timișoara and the Giroc district, which unfolds in a dance of evolution, wrapped in memories of the evolution of the young people who made the '89 Revolution happen. The show is part of Spotlight Heritage Timișoara, a project included in the national cultural programme "Timișoara - European Capital of Culture in 2023" and aims to invite the audience to take a leap back in time to a not too distant past that defined the city we know today and transformed it into the cradle of freedom for an entire nation.

The event is organized in partnership with Magnum Dance Sport Team, Triade Foundation and will take place on 23 July 2023, at the U Barracks, from 22:00. The artistic performance is based on the experience, dramaturgy and choreography of the collaboration between Politehnica University Timișoara and Magnum Dance Sport Team, together with the National Museum of Banat, accompanied by music composed by Dan Simion. 

Under the spotlight, we return to the roads of the past, where the voice of brave young people, those seekers of change, lurks. Our show is an ode to the young people and students who made the leap to freedom, their story told using innovative digital technologies such as 3D mixed-technology projections and augmented reality elements. These projections and elements were made by students and professors of Politehnica University Timisoara, involved in the "Spotlight Heritage Timisoara" project.

The show will offer an exciting and inspiring journey through art and technology, transforming the stage into a remarkable digital landscape. We look forward to an evening where past and present will meet on the same stage this weekend, where they will intertwine and create a bridge across time.

Dance and theatre will merge in a spectacular way, highlighting the key moments and deep emotions associated with the '89 Revolution and the artistic trajectory of the artworks that emerged from this historic event. We explore the past with the roots of socialism, the schools of the period and the construction of industrial Timișoara. We follow the route of the students and the secrets of contemporary Timișoara, revealed also through the verses of Robert Șerban, through the archive-images of Constantin Duma, a symphony of words, music, images and movement evoking the essence of the places and people of the city on the Bega.

Spotlight Heritage Timișoara / Patrimoniul sub reflectoare is a digital cultural initiative of the Politehnica University of Timișoara realized in partnership with the National Museum of Banat, part of the Cultural Programme Timișoara 2023 European Capital of Culture.
